Depuy and Conformis Custom Joints

At Outpatient Joint Replacement Center of America, we can perform custom joint replacement procedures. Dr. Flip Clifford has experience with multiple device manufacturers with regard to custom total joint replacement procedures. Which devices may be used depend on each patient’s unique case.

DePuy Synthes is a company that provides innovative total knee replacement systems for patients. They are a medical instrument company that delivers high quality knee replacements from companies such as TRUMATCH, Attune, and Sigma. Many of the products that are available deliver the latest design in engineering, supplying high levels of motion and stability for patients. These instruments are intended to assist with the correct positioning of a joint replacement. Products from Attune have helped over 700,000 patients worldwide find relief and treatment through their knee replacements. The products from DePuy are placed based on a CT scan, which allows for the truest alignment possible as well as the most accurate data. Each product was made to provide a more accurate surgical procedure. Using these products, such as the TRUMATCH Knee Joints, could eliminate up to nine extra surgical steps compared to using traditional knee replacement materials, making their products less invasive.

Conformis is a company that creates a custom-made total knee replacement implant that is unique for every patient. Conformis utilizes each individual’s CT scan data to manufacture a knee replacement implant. These implants are based off of your individual anatomy, unlike off-the-shelf knee implants. There are no pre-determined measurements, since no two knees are the same. Each knee consists of two joint lines (medial side and lateral side) and Conformis is the only technology that maintains both sides using polyethelene inserts. The design of Conformis sanctions for optimal bone preservation, allowing for less bone and tissue removal, hence permitting surgeons to keep as much of the patient’s natural knee preserved. Their implant is thinner than off-the-shelf implants, but does not sacrifice in strength. Conformis’ goal is to be pain-free, restore natural motion, and for patients to return to their everyday activities.

What You Need To Know

The OJRCA Method

Once a CT scan is taken on a patient’s knee, OJRCA will be able to determine whether a partial or total knee replacement procedure could be medically necessary for you. From there, we can determine which medical device and tools will fit your individual case and have a custom-fit knee implant ordered to meet your needs (if your case should require a custom implant). These implants can take anywhere from 6-7 weeks to create and once they arrive, our surgeon will determine if it will be the right fit for you. If all of the measurements, scans, and data are conclusive, OJRCA will then begin the steps to help provide you with your new custom knee replacement implant.

Patient Success

“Dr. Clifford is an excellent surgeon, but also has a way to talk to and discuss the issues and concerns with his patients. I continue to tell everyone that asks, and some that don’t, how great it was working with him and what excellent results I had. I am very grateful I had him in my corner while going through these surgeries.”

-Mary B.

Patient Success

“Dr. Clifford also insisted that I recuperate at home but that I go out for physical therapy. He said that he wanted his patients to “get up, get dressed and go out for physical therapy”. I believe that’s what saved me!”

-Jondeen T.

“No way! Was my first reaction to the idea that a hip replacement could be done as outpatient surgery. But now, having had both hips replaced six months apart and having returned home the same day for each, I am convinced, pleased, and walking around without pain for the first time in years.”

-Karen S.

“I have never met another surgeon that truly loves what he does, cares about his patients and listens to what you have to say.”
